They say that necessity is the monther of invention, well obviously during the World Cup there was the need to find a way of getting a beer out of the fridge, without missing any of the action!

So the boffins at personal robotics firm Willow Garage decided to developed a robot to be able to do that, and built the finished product (called the PR2) in just five days. Their criteria? In a fascinating poll released today, it has been revealed that the average Brit spends £39,480 buying rounds for friends and family.

This is based on an average of 3 nights out at pubs, clubs and restaurants every month, and 1.8 rounds per night. And apparently the average cost of a round is estimated at £13.

Thats all very well, but it doesnt take into account the rounds that get bought for you, and I know some people who actually drink a lot more than they pay out on rounds. They always seem to be in the toilet or taking an urgent phone call when it comes to their rounds! Read the full post

The supermodel Claudia Schiffer never used to drink beer, but now she is pregnant she has developed a craving for a drop of the Amber Nectar!

She was asked if she had developed any strange sypmtoms since she got pregnant: “I’d love a beer,” she said. ” That’s all I’ve been craving.”

Paris Hilton has made a video for a new beer in Brazil called Devassa (which means ‘very blonde’ apparently), but it is being reported that the authorities in the South American country are trying to get it banned because it’s ‘demeaning to women’.

This is how it was described on inentertainment.co.uk: Conar – the Brazilian advertisement regulatory body – has apparently got rules that state “appeals to sensuality won’t constitute the principal content of the message,” and “advertising models won’t be treated as sex objects.” Read the full post
